Why make a game - Bestie

Our target audience consisted of teenagers and young adults, with the primary goal of raising awareness about the fast fashion crisis and empowering them to take action against it.

In education, there is a growing trend of leveraging emerging technologies like gamification to motivate students to learn and, more importantly, to stay engaged. A great example of this is Kahoot.

The challenge Night of Nerds faced in teaching this young audience wasn’t about delivering the content—it was about capturing and holding their attention. To address this, I decided to create a game. By incorporating a 2000–2010 cartoon art style, the game evokes a sense of nostalgia and familiarity for the audience, making it more relatable and appealing. Additionally, the interactive nature of a game demands active participation, ensuring greater engagement compared to a video format, where viewers might passively watch while distracted by their phones.
